Tasseography

I decided to acquire the skills needed to perform an ancient art.... Tasseography: Tea Leaf Reading.  I like drinking tea and I'd like to be able to foretell events from the future. These two traits together mark the perfect candidate for a student of tasseography. I had my first reading Sunday. I read Davids future along with my own.

First, I turned my 'all seeing eyes' to Davids empty tea cup.

After the liquid has been drunk, a ritual of turning the cup upside down and turning it in circles on its saucer is performed. Then the cup is flipped right side up and the reading begins. In Davids cup, these are the images I found: A snail, a bird in flight, a dog, a dinosaur, a bumble bee, a sea-horse, buildings, a boot and a duck. I consulted my handy guide (Tea Cup Reading by Sasha Fenton). The back of the book has an index with images found in tea leaves and their meanings. Some of the images I found were not found in the back of the book. I substituted snail with tortoise, sea-horse with horse and dinosaur with lizard (this decision was a tough one. the connection between dinosaurs and lizards is weakened now because of the evidence that dino's evolved into birds. I already saw a bird in the cup though, so I chose to interpret the dino under the lizard category partially for varieties sake.) In the end, this is the final reading for David's future: With some helpful criticism from a friend, you will straighten out your ideas, figuring out which ones are good and which are bad. Your good ideas will strike up a business proposal and you will start a successful business. The business will bring you money. It has something to do with travel.

Next, it was my turn.

I had far less tea leaves in my cup, and thus, less images to aide me in deciphering my future. Here's what I saw: a swallow, a boat, a crawling baby, and a pegasus. My final fortune was: a journey will bring good news and a change for the better that develops because of a lesson learned combined with new idea's. I have to say, reading ones own future is hard. Its hard to tell when I'm being biased. I certainly don't want to predict anything bad in my future. Plus, I already know some of my plans for the future so its difficult to separate plans with authentic fortune telling. I think I am only going to read my own future for practice.

Well, I'll let you know if any of the futures come true.
