Orchards, Marionettes and Strangers
I took a walk at Carkeek recently using a new (to me) trail that goes through a fruit orchard. Of course all the trees are bare now, but it was still fun to see the little orchard. Here are some photos.
I want to thank Catharine over at Deep Cove Flowers because I just saw she gave me the Liebster award! I appreciate it. Since I don't know when I'll do the official Liebster post, I wanted to thank her now. Catharine's blog is full of beautiful illustrations including flowers. In the dreary, bare-branched Winter months, we should all look at beautiful flower illustrations since we can't see very many flowers in person. Although today I saw some blooming cherry blossoms and it was so refreshing. Today was a beautiful and sunny day in Seattle. I went to the Ballard farmers market where I saw lots of dogs, children and street performers The best performer I saw was a man playing a guitar next to a tiny stage with two marionettes. I think his strumming hand was some how connected to the strings that made the marionettes move, so they looked like they were dancing along with the music.

Yesterday my friend and I went to see the movie 'Silver Linings Playbook.' It is the only 2012 best picture Oscar nomination I've watched so far. Although I did watch the Oscars last week but had no one to really root for since I was so out of the loop with my movie viewing. I thought 'Silver Linings Playbook' was great and I am glad I finally saw it. It is a movie with heart!
On Friday I was at a party when a stranger from outside noticed the festivities. He must have felt either bored or a sudden burst of loneliness that compelled him to throw off the shackles of social conventions and brave the party uninvited. This was a fairly small birthday get together, not a raging kegger full of anonymous party goers, so blending in was more of a feat. The stranger met the legitimate party goers on the patio first. They assumed he must be friends with someone inside, so they politely introduced themselves to this newcomer. Three of the five people who were out on the balcony had names that started with 'R.' One of the non-R's, a particularly friendly fellow, even gave this newcomer a beer. When the stranger came inside and was confronted with the question of who he knew here, he boldly stated he was with the R's. As if the 'R's' was his cute pet name for the trio of R named people outside. It seemed believable enough to me and I didn't think twice about this guy, whose disheveled scruffiness may not have fit perfectly well with the clean cut party attire, but it is Seattle after all, where ragamuffin hippies are embraced with open arms! Feeling confident with his beer in hand and his new friends the 'R's', he even snacked on some of the food. But then someone, I think the host, became suspicious of this stranger and his hokey story of the 'R's.' With further inquiry it was discovered that he was a fraud! Some of the bigger fellows escorted this kindly scoundrel outside, where he was ordered to leave. He shambled away, slipping a bit on the mossy stairs as he left. His last words were a jovial complaint about the poor state of the stairs.
