Sharp Shooters Visit to Bremerton Pt. 4:The Town

Bremerton is a strange little navy town by the Puget Sound. It is full of things that are old and things that are new. It is a bustling place at spots, but just around the corners, it is empty, desolate and lonely. Every time I've ever been to Bremerton, it feels spooky in some manner. It feels bright and happy right when you get off the fairy like a big smiling face. But you just walk a little further into town and its something different. There are lots of empty store fronts. The roads are empty too. The towns in flux though, just like much of the Seattle area. Every town all around this area is changing it's identity, becoming something new and different.

While in Bremerton, I saw many dogs, but it was like I kept seeing the same dog over and over again. It was like almost every person I saw with a dog had a medium sized, orangeish brown pit bull mix. It was very odd, and a little eerie.

But that's the thing about Bremerton, it is always eerie every time I visit. It turns out the eeriness extends further than just doppelganger dogs. There is a road that leads to Bremerton that is supposedly haunted! The road is called Holland Road...or as the locals call it...ghost road! The ghost that is most commonly seen is that of a young girl. When she was alive, she was probably the type of girl to rescue fallen fledglings, scooping them up and putting them back in their nests. She definitely was an animal lover, as her last act as a live girl was riding her beloved horse. With a smile on her face and the breeze brushing back her long black hair, the girl rode upon her horse down Holland Road. But then a man, a drunk driver, came barreling down the street. Maybe he had just been broken up with and he tried to drown his sorrow in drink. Whatever the reason to become intoxicated, it had incapacitated his ability to drive. He hit the poor girl and the horse and they perished. The man was cowardly. Perhaps he was thinking that he just couldn't survive the big house. Or maybe he was thinking about a sickly mother whose heart couldn't take the idea that her son killed another human being. But he did not do the right thing and seek the police, instead, he secretly buried the poor child with help from his foolish friends. But he left evidence behind and the cops were on to him. He continued down his cowardly path and denied it all. The law would never get him, instead, early death came galloping his way. Ever since then, people have reported seeing ghostly visions of a girl riding a horse along that road.
