Book Review: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I love being transported to magical worlds through reading. That is exactly what happened when reading Erin Morgenstern's book 'The Night Circus.' The story is beautifully written with vivid descriptions that make the reader feel right there, as if they are experiencing the circus too.

The people who visit the circus are enamored with he delights around every corner of the circus. Even real circus's are impressive, (Trapeze artists! Contortionists! Tight rope walkers!) but the magic of the night circus is a whole other level of excitement and delight for those visiting. There is true magic within each tent, corner or pocket of the circus. The circus patrons revel in the delight, not realizing the fierce competition fueling the magic.

The two competitors are Marco and Celia. But the competition they are involved in is no ordinary competition. They have been roped into the competition by two men wielding magic, who in turn impart their magical secrets on their protege in an attempt to ready them for the competition. They must out-wit and out-magic each other in a fierce battle of circus magic.

Interlaced with this story,  are stories of love and finding deep connections with other human beings. Connections are made and broken and strengthened and tested all within the confines of this magic sub-world the circus creators live in.

I definitely recommend this book, especially to those looking to add a little magic to their life!

What goes great with reading a whimsical book? A whimsical dessert: blackberry crumble! I made this crumble using blackberries from my backyard.

I used

this

recipe to create the crumble, but added a bit more sugar than the recipe required, because as a life long sweet tooth, that's the way I do things.
