Book Review: 'Big Sky' by Kate Atkinson
I was so excited to see that Kate Atkinson had written another Jackson Brodie novel. The newest Jackson Brodie novel is called 'Big Sky.' No, it doesn't take place in Montana. It takes place in the United Kingdom.
Jackson Brodie is a detective who is working common PI cases of investigating cheaters, when he gets looped into more serious detectiving of solving cases involving sex trafficking and murder. He veered into the more intense mystery solving when meeting a very sad man on a cliff. The man, named Vince, had recently found out his soon-to-be-ex wife had been murdered and he was a suspect. From there, both men take actions that lead them to even bigger scandals and mysteries.
'Big Sky' was a great read. I enjoyed the variety of characters and the way Atkinson can so easily create their inter-workings in a way that brings the characters to life. One of the things I always enjoy about Atkinsons novel is the way she makes characters feel like such genuine, living humans by giving them such strong inter dialogue. There was a lot going on at once in this novel, but Atkinson's clarity of writing and lively characters made each plot and subplot compelling. I would definitely recommend this book, along with all the Jackson Brodie books.
I read this book over the course of several sunny days, and on one sunny morning, enjoyed reading it along with some iced coffee, watermelon and homemade banana bread with chocolate chips. Here is the recipe I used for the banana bread: Chocolate Chip Banana Bread.
