Ashley's Heart:

1. Sailing: The rock of the boat, the thrill of the thrashing sea, the encounters with mystery and with animals of the deep.

2. Flowers: A miracle of nature. They have only existed for 130 million years, which is just a blink of the eye, a turn of the head, a flick of the fingers worth of time when you are considering geological time.

3. Knitting: Providing warmth to a friend through the care of clicking needles and darting fingers.

4. Cupcakes: The sweetness of something so small and wonderful.

5. Baseball: The whack of the bat against the twirling ball. The thrill of the wait. The mad dash from white island to white island. 

6. Strawberries: Summers perfect gift. 

7. Succulents: The most bizarre and wondrous of all plants.

8. Her Cat: The best of all companions. A friend in slumber. A friend in lounging. A friend in mischief.

9. Archery: The precision and strength combined to achieve the perfect bulls eye. 

10. Shell collection: The sea spits up little gifts for all of us. They are treasures.

11. Pears: Delicious when they are crunchy, delicious when they are soft.

12. Stargazing: We can't explore the sky on our own, but our eyes can explore bright suns and mysterious destinations through the lens of a telescope.

13. Rollerskating: The rattle and clatter of rolling wheels whizzing down the sidewalk. The thrill of whirling instead of walking.

14. Tea: Feeling cozy with the warmth of a steamy mug of tea.

15. Her pet turtle: The admiration for a creature so slow yet so confident. The self reliance of a house on your back wherever you go. The sweetness of a curious turtle expression.

16. Banjo playing: Summoning ghosts of the past through picking notes on the banjo. Teasing ghosts of the future with make believe songs.
