Chinatown, SF: A Beautiful Place to Explore

When I was in San Francisco recently with my family, my dad and I woke up early to go explore Chinatown. I was so impressed! We have a Chinatown (also called The International District) in Seattle that's pretty cool, but it has got nothing on San Francisco's Chinatown!

Chinatown first sprung up in San Francisco during the birth of the city. Gold was discovered nearby and many Chinese immigrants, eyes sparkling with dreams of grand wealth after striking it rich with gold, came to San Francisco's Chinatown to make a home for themselves while gold mining.

The Chinese immigrants who made San Francisco their home also made Chinatown what it is today: a beautiful part of the city, and another important dimension of San Francisco that gives the city its personality.

Chinatwons and Japantowns and Little Italys and whatever-country-towns are just one of the may examples of how our hodgepodge ancestries make our country more beautiful and more wondrous! I am very proud to live in a country of immigrants. The core American culture becomes more significant from the influences of the the immigrants who have created our America. Right now we live in a time that is so hateful toward immigrants and it is just heartbreaking and terrifying. We are loosing part of the identity that is truly meaningful by not embracing many people and many cultures. It is very sad that we keep having to remind each other that most of us come from immigrant ancestors. Unless you are 100 percent Native American, you have an ancestor who immigrated here, looking for a better life, and leaving behind a better United States through their influence. I think it will do us all good to try to find that part of ourselves that comes from people who came here hoping for something different and something better or something safer or something freer. We're all just human, trying to do our best in this chaotic world. Let's respect and appreciate each other! Because the truth is, denying immigrants as humans isn't just threatening our countries culture, it is impacting our very humanity. I want to live in a world where we try to help each other and embrace each other and choose to love each other.

The entrance of San Francisco's China town beckons tourists and locals alike to come explore!

It was really early when I was exploring Chinatown so all the shops were closed. But I still did window peering and so all sorts of interesting things for sale through the windows, like these solemn panda bears.

A lot of the storefronts were grimy and beautiful at the same time, or rather, the griminess just made the shops more beautiful!

Hello! A friendly sign.

There was neat public art in Chinatown.

I went inside this church. It was beautiful and quiet.

I feel like there should be someone fancy on that upper balcony reciting a sonnet while sprinkling rose petals on the listeners below.

Haha, love this advertisement. So bold yet so vague in it's declaration.

Overall, exploring the streets of Chinatown was so interesting for my eyes and my brain! I want to go back someday in the future and even explore it further!
